PINE VIEW ELEMENTARY GETS LIFE SAVING DEVICE

Pine View Elementary School (Land O Lakes) took delivery of their very own life saving automated external defibrillator (AED) in late January. Local area businesses came together donating the necessary funds to make this device available to Pine View Elementary. AEDs are used to jump-start a stopped heart by delivering a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to the affected heart that has failed due to heart attack or cardiac arrest. It is designed to specifically enable easy use by non-medical personnel. Rob Kress, Director of Marketing for Ierna's Heating & Cooling took on the "Local Businesses Have a Heart" fundraising project when it came to his attention that his neighbor, 6 year old Brian Boehm suffered from a heart condition and the school he attends, Pine View Elementary, did not have an AED on campus. "Actually I was shocked to find out it was not mandatory to have an AED device in every school, stated Kress. In Florida, only High Schools are mandated to have an AED due to organized sports. School-age children are not immune to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. An estimated 5,000 to 7,000 children die from SCA each year without exhibiting prior symptoms, some of them on school grounds. If having this device in every school saves one life then I think it is money well spent. I think every parent or grandparent should check to find out if their student's school has an AED device on premises & an emergency plan of action in place. I also want to take a moment to personally thank each one of the local businesses that donated their hard earned money for this important cause. Thank you so very much for your kindness and commitment to our community and children." Read More!
